If it is urgent

Smoke coming back into the room, a burning smell after a fire, an animal in the flue, or water running down the chimney breast — stop using the fireplace and call us.

Symptoms

What is going on
with your chimney

01

Chimney Leaking Water

Water is the single most common thing we are called out for, and it is almost never coming from where the homeowner thinks.

02

Smoke Coming Into the House

A fireplace that pushes smoke into the room is telling you the draft has failed. Sometimes that is trivial. Sometimes it means the flue is blocked, which is a carbon monoxide problem as much as a smoke problem.

03

Chimney Odour

A chimney that smells is usually a chimney that is damp, dirty, or drawing backwards — and it nearly always gets worse in warm weather.

04

Chimney Liner Replacement

The liner is the pipe inside the chimney. When it fails, combustion gases reach the masonry and the framing beside it — which is why this is the one repair we never soft-pedal.

05

Animal in the Chimney

Scratching, chirping or rustling above the damper means something has got into an uncapped flue. It happens constantly in the wooded parts of New Jersey.

06

Chimney Flashing Repair

Flashing is the metal joint where your chimney passes through the roof, and it is where most chimney leaks actually start.

07

Creosote Removal

Creosote is the tarry residue wood smoke leaves on a cool flue wall. It is the fuel in every chimney fire, and it comes in three stages that need different treatment.

08

Chimney Crown Repair

The crown is the slab on top of the chimney that sheds water off the masonry. On most older New Jersey houses it was never built properly in the first place.

What happens on the visit

  • We protect your floor and hearth before anything else
  • A camera goes in the flue, bottom to top — not a flashlight
  • We check the firebox, damper, smoke shelf and the crown above the roofline
  • We confirm which appliances vent into which flue
  • You get a written report with photographs the same day
