What we repair
Most chimney damage in New Jersey is water damage. Water gets into masonry, freezes, expands and takes the masonry apart from the inside. Almost everything on this list traces back to that.
- Repointing — grinding out failed mortar joints and replacing them, matched to the original mortar
- Crown repair and rebuild — replacing cracked mortar wash with a proper cast crown with an overhang
- Brick replacement — rebuilding courses lost to spalling
- Flue liner repair and stainless relining — for cracked tile or unlined flues
- Flashing — sealing the joint where the chimney meets the roof
- Firebox and damper repair — refractory panels, dampers, smoke chamber parging
How we price it
We do not quote repair work over the phone, because a price given without seeing the chimney is a guess and guesses get revised upward. What happens instead is that we do the $49 inspection, we photograph what we find, and we hand you a written price for the specific work the photographs show.
If you want to take that written price and get two other quotes, do. That is a reasonable thing to do with a repair bill and we will not pressure you about it.
Historic masonry
If your house is genuinely old — the Morristown Historic District, Llewellyn Park, the older Newark and Paterson stock — the mortar matters. Nineteenth-century masonry was laid with soft lime mortar, and repointing it with hard modern portland mortar transfers stress into the brick and damages it. We match mortar to the masonry rather than to the calendar.

You have probably read that a cheap chimney offer is bait, and that the number changes once the technician is standing in your living room. That happens, and it is a fair thing to be wary of.
So here is our commitment in plain language. The price you booked is the price you pay for the inspection or the cleaning. Our technician does not arrive and rewrite it. If we find something that genuinely needs repair, you get photographs of the problem and a written price, and you are free to say no, think about it, or get two other quotes. Nobody will push you.
If your chimney is fine, our report will say so and we will go home. That is a normal outcome.
