What $49 actually gets you

A chimney inspection should answer one question: is it safe to use this winter, yes or no. To answer it honestly a technician has to look at the parts of the chimney you cannot see — the inside of the flue, the crown at the top, the smoke shelf behind the damper. That is what we do, and it takes us roughly forty-five minutes to an hour on a typical single-flue house.

  • Camera scan of the full flue from bottom to top
  • Firebox, damper, smoke chamber and smoke shelf
  • Crown, cap, flashing and the masonry above the roofline
  • Confirmation of which appliances vent into which flue
  • Check for blockage, nesting material and creosote buildup
  • A written report with photographs, sent to you the same day

The photographs are the point

Anyone can come to your house, look up your chimney with a flashlight, and tell you it needs two thousand dollars of work. You have no way to check that. The reason we scan the flue with a camera and send you the images is so that you can see the condition of your own chimney with your own eyes and make your own decision.

If your chimney is fine, the report says it is fine and we go home. That happens often, and it is a perfectly good outcome for a forty-nine dollar visit.

When you need one

Once a year is the standard for any chimney that gets used, and the reason is that the two things that make a chimney dangerous — creosote buildup and blockage — both accumulate over a season and neither is visible from the room. Beyond the annual check, get an inspection if you have just bought the house, if you have not used the fireplace in several years and want to start, if you have had any work done on your heating system, after a chimney fire or a serious storm, or if you are smelling smoke or seeing staining on the chimney breast.

OUR PROMISE

$49 means $49.

You have probably read that a cheap chimney offer is bait, and that the number changes once the technician is standing in your living room. That happens, and it is a fair thing to be wary of.

So here is our commitment in plain language. The price you booked is the price you pay for the inspection or the cleaning. Our technician does not arrive and rewrite it. If we find something that genuinely needs repair, you get photographs of the problem and a written price, and you are free to say no, think about it, or get two other quotes. Nobody will push you.

If your chimney is fine, our report will say so and we will go home. That is a normal outcome.
